Is Boat Insurance Really Necessary?
It is a good idea to have insurance on all motorized watercraft. Rates differ depending on what boat or personal watercraft you own. Passenger boats powered by motors usually can carry more than 3 people, and since serious body and property damage can be done with these boats, you should at least have liability insurance. As with a car, accidents on water can happen at anytime. People can be injured, or worse, they could lose their life. Boat insurance will cover you against possible lawsuits should any unfortunate boating accident occur. Another good reason to have boat insurance is to cover yourself in case of theft. Having marine insurance will mean you won't be stuck paying the bank for the boat that you no longer have, and property liability will cover the boat and also the boat equipment.
